MYTHS ABOUT GAINING WEIGHT

So yesterday i talked about losing weight, today being world lekpa day (i invented it, so wot ?)  i’m going to talk about how to gain weight ! in a healthy non self destructive way that is i.e does not involve chugging massive quantities of ice cream or yoghurt or even worse drinking obscene quantities  of raw eggs before you go to bed every night. It should be noted that some people are underweight as a result of anorexia which is a severe eating disorder and can have life threatening implications –physiological help and therapy is what i recommend. Below is a picture of what anorexia is.(no,she is not poor! and the picture wasn't taken in Afghanistan )



So i’m going to structure things in the fashion of yesterday’s post for the sake of parity  ; MYTH, FACT ,TIP.  And on the left sidebar is still the BMI(body mass index) calculator which tells you if you are fit, under or over weight, just input your height and weight and it tells you.


# 1 MYTH : THE MORE PROTEIN YOU EAT THE MORE MUSCLE YOU WILL BUILD


FACT:-  this is so false because adding protein to an already balanced diet would only lead the body to converting the excess protein you fed it to fat which gets stored . so yes you may push the needle of the scale further but in the long run you will hurt yourself because it may lead to other health problems like health failure and diabetes.
TIP: - in the bid to gain weight you have to watch what you eat because not all that makes you “fresh” is good for your health.


# 2 MYTH : YOU CAN NOT GAIN WEIGHT ON A VEGETARIAN DIET


FACT:- it is possible to gain weight on a vegetarian diet , bulk up and  build lean muscle mass , but it’ll be marginally harder
TIP:- add nuts, whole grains, legumes and cereals to your diet.


# 3 MYTH: USE PILLS TO GAIN WEIGHT


FACT:- ok, i know you are thinking “boma, your own too much sef  CYPRON WORKS WELL”                 I’m not a big fan of drugs really, because many drugs that help you gain weight also make you ,drowsy , lazy and sleepy for days on end . also they tend to tinker with your metabolism and all, there is also the psychological dependence(yes, crack is not the only addictive thing ) because when you get hooked on these drugs you can’t feel hungry unless you’ve popped one that morning! Resulting in ANOREXIA!!
TIP:- natural methods maybe harder but they are sure safer

# 4 MYTH:  TO GAIN WEIGHT I SHOULD NOT GO TO THE GYM OR EXERCISE


FACT:-  a good weight gain regimen is a careful balance between eating the right types of food and exercise, so you should watch your calorie intake, output and the types of food you take (FOOD IS NOT FOOD) . because building lean muscle mass is the healthy  alternative to clogging your arteries with fats.
TIP:- when joining a gym, outline  your reasons for joining to your instructor and he will come up with a program that fits your diet and helps you achieve your goals


#5 MYTH :  Nutritional supplements are a must if you want to gain weight 

FACT:- supplements like the word, are meant to add to the normal diet plan not replace em ! if you don’t take in enough protein through your normal diet, you may want to take a protein supplement. Apart from that, supplements are not necessary. There is no sense in over loading your system .
