10 myths about weight loss

One  of the most common new year resolutions is “This year i’m going to lose weight  or whip myself back into shape” and yes most of people need the extra effort to burn of those extra pounds. The body operates at its optimum when one is in shape.  Hmm two days ago my sister looked at me and said, hmm boma u r looking fat oh ! omo it didn’t stop me from finishing the drumstick that i was chewing on. But it got me thinking about eating smart! And the billions of people living with health problems as a direct result of being overweight.

So I’m going to arrange it in this order MYTH, FACT and maybe TIPS. As much as I can I’d try to keep it simple and understandable by keeping away from all the medical jargon et al
1.       MYTH  : YOU CAN LOSE WEIGHT WITH A PILL
FACT:   We live in the computer age where all ones’ wants are only a button push away,  people tend  the same approach  with losing weight (I know a bit about how drugs work and I know nothing  good can come out of it). Last year $6 billion dollars was spent on fraudulent  “diet “ pills and lets say you get luck and find  one that works how’s HEART FAILURE for a side effect ! !
TIP: Weight loss is a result of carefully tailored lifestyle changes AND STICKING TO EM
2.       MYTH: DIET COKE  AIDS WEIGHT LOSS
FACT:  There is no scientific evidence to show that they help you lose weight!  Its all hype
3.       MYTH: YOU HAVE TO JOIN A GYM TO LOSE WEIGHT
FACT:  Recent research done at Cambridge university shows that 30 to 60 minutes per day of MODERATE physical activity is enough to  balance ones food intake
TIP: The operative word is physical activity. Which does NOT  include thinking or heavy reading in school nor does it include finishing one whole season of gossip girl in one day!
4.       MYTH: Fasting or crash dieting makes you lose weight
FACT:  This is only true in the short term but it ultimately can hinder weight loss as fasting leads to       the removal of fat and lean muscle mass which leads to a drop in your metabolic rate the short of the long story is that when you stop fasting, it’ll take you less food than before to gain weight ! !
TIP:  Use fasting as a way to show your dedication to GOD and not as a way to lose weight!
5.       MYTH: FOOD EATING LATE AT NIGHT IS MORE FATTENING
FACT:   Many diets tell you not to eat after a certain time in the evening. They say the body will store more fat because it is not burned off with any activity.  Cambridge University suggests that when you eat is not important it’s the total calorie intake in a 24hr period that matters.
TIP:  If u eat ,no breakfast and a large lunch and diner .omo bone your lack of breakfast  just gets you grumpy in the morning!!
6.       MYTH:  NATURAL OR HERBAL WEIGHT LOSS PRODUCTS ARE SAFE AND EFFECTIVE
FACT:   Because it is natural or herbal does not mean it’s safe. Things like ephedra are very toxic and potent and have numerous side effects! So be careful
TIP:   Please talk with your pharmacist, doctor or nutritionist before you start of on the new magic sliming tea.
7.       MYTH : CERTAIN FOODS, LIKE GRAPEFRUIT, LIME JUICE OR CABBAGE SOUP CAN BURN FAT
FACT:  No foods can burn fat, some may speed up your metabolic process but it’s only for a short time, but they do not weight loss.
8.       MYTH:  CHOLESTEROL IS BAD FOR YOU
FACT:   Em, there are two types of fats, SATURATED (found in butter, cheese, meat) and UNSATURATED (found in vegetable oils, nuts and seeds)   the SATURATED fats are bad for you and may lead too fat deposition of fats in the arteries.
                9. MYTH: SKIPPING MEALS IS A GOOD WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT
FACT:  studies show that people who skip breakfast and eat fewer times during  the day tend to be heavier than people who eat a healthy breakfast and eat four or five times a day. This may be because people who skip meals tend to feel hungrier later on, and eat more than they normally would; also eating small meals throughout the day helps on control his appetite
10.  MYTH:  NO FAT DIETS ARE GOOD FOR YOU
FACT:   fats are very important for your body as the body needs fat to repair its self, for energy and to transport vitamins A, D, E and K round the body.
